By the end of 2010, Qatar had realised His Highness the Emir’s vision for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity of 77 million tonnes per annum, supplying four continents and becoming the leading LNG supplier in the world.
WRG Qatar LLC were selected to produce a State celebration on behalf of Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and RasGas to celebrate this historic achievement and an integral part of the event was the brand development and recognition.
To ensure global consistency throughout the various brand mediums, WRG developed brand guidelines, which were designed and produced by our in-house creative team in just two weeks.
Inspired by traditional Arabic calligraphy, the logo began its life with the number ‘77’. The hand-scribed number symbolises the vision for Qatar at the moment when Qatar’s LNG industry reaches its landmark 77 Mta combined production capacity.
WRG developed the calligraphic ‘77’ Symbol into a refined and internationally recognisable contemporary logo and acts as a window into which His Highness the Emir’s vision is framed. Through the ‘77’ Symbol we were able to show the many positive achievements of the Qatari LNG Industry, achievements that have benefitted Qatar, its people and the global energy industry.
In the months leading up to the event a number of external hoardings, flags and banners were erected in and around Qatar, this went to the extreme with the re-naming of the dual carriageway leading to Ras Laffan Industrial City as ‘Route 77’.
By using the 77 Mta Celebration logo we reinforced the theme and content of the celebration event. This reinforcement demonstrated a link back to His Highness the Emir and to his vision for the country of Qatar – a vision made real.
